One Room Challenge Week 4 – The Wall
ORC WEEKLY UPDATES
Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6
It is Week 4 of my dining room makeover for the Fall One Room Challenge. This week brought slow progress. If you recall from my post last week, my plan this week was to create a slat accent wall along the entry of the dining room. I bought all my supplies, decided on a design for my slats and began affixing them to the wall. After a number of hours of moving the slats around, I realized that it just didn’t work in my small space. It was almost overwhelming the room, and the trim around the doors and windows made it difficult to find balance between the slats, windows and doors. I was quite disappointed, didn’t even take a pictured of the slats in the space to show you just how much it flopped.
So, I had to PIVOT. I decided to just paint the walls, update the trims and baseboards and paint the door. I wanted a bright yet moody color for the door that would at least make my plain walls interesting. While perusing the paint aisle of Home Depot I came across the PPG Scarborough and loved it, brought a sample home and it was a match made in heaven for my room. I decided to spray paint the door hardware black to contrast with the door and wall colors. I think I might paint all my doors and hardware now, I like it that much. It wasn’t the accent wall I was planning for but the wall definitely still stands out.

Plans for Floors
I made some progress with the walls and started putting up new baseboards. I will finish the baseboards once make a decision about what I will do with the floors. I purchased a table and chairs. I am hoping to show them to you next week when they arrive.
Next Steps
This week I will be focusing on the floors. With my original slat accent wall plan, I only planned to refresh the grout on my tile floors. Since I decided not to use the slat wall and paint the door instead, I will need to update the flooring. The color of the tiles is a little odd with the color of the door. So my plan this week is to brainstorm ideas for the floors. So far, I am thinking of either floating tile floor or peel and stick vinyl tile.
Come back next week to check out what I decided to do to the floors. Only two more weeks left. I’m excited to share how everything is coming together. In the meantime, check out what the featured designers and other guest participants are working on over at the ORC.
